Kathmandu University Introduces ‘Shadow Teacher’ Program in Collaboration with Machhapuchhre World School

Kathmandu University's School of Education has initiated a "shadow teacher" program with Machhapuchhre World School. Students will gain practical teaching experience alongside theoretical education. The initiative aims to develop experienced teachers for community schools. The program emphasizes university-school collaboration to prepare future educators and address teacher shortages.

Lalitpur-14, Nepal— Kathmandu University’s School of Education has launched a “shadow teacher” program, aiming to provide students with practical teaching experience alongside their theoretical education. The university’s English Language Department has entered into an agreement with Machhapuchhre World School to implement this initiative.

Under the agreement, students from the English Language Department at Kathmandu University will participate in shadow teaching at Machhapuchhre World School. This program will enable students to gain hands-on experience in a real classroom setting, contributing to the development of experienced teachers for community schools.

The university emphasized the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and schools to prepare future educators. Dean of the School of Education, Prof. Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel, expressed confidence that the program will equip students with both knowledge and skills, addressing the shortage of experienced teachers in the community.

Home Prasad Acharya of Machhapuchhre World School highlighted the role of private schools in collaborating with universities to strengthen the teaching profession. He stated that this partnership is a crucial step in preparing competent educators. Associate Professor Dr. Tikaram Paudel of the English Language Department added that the “shadow teacher” concept will help attract the next generation to the teaching profession.

The agreement was signed by Dean of KU School of Education; Prof. Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel on behalf of Kathmandu University and Home Prasad Acharya on behalf of Machhapuchhre World School.
