India claims to have downed a Pakistani F-16 and activated its S-400 defense system. Explosions were heard across several border areas. Blackouts have been enforced in Jammu, Punjab, and Rajasthan. An IPL match in Dharamshala was suspended. Authorities urge citizens to remain indoors amid rising fears of a potential conflict.

New Delhi, — Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated dramatically after a series of cross-border drone attacks, prompting widespread blackouts and heightened security in sensitive regions. Indian media reported that Pakistan launched drone strikes targeting areas from Kashmir to Rajasthan and Punjab.

In response, the Indian armed forces activated the S-400 air defense system, claiming to have intercepted and neutralized multiple threats. The situation worsened after a Pakistani F-16 fighter jet was reportedly shot down over the Jammu region, sparking panic and loud explosions in several border districts including Samba, Pathankot, RS Pura, Amritsar, Jaisalmer, and Bhuj.

Amid fears of further escalation, security agencies have ordered local residents in vulnerable areas to switch off lights and remain indoors. Full-scale blackouts have been enforced in Jammu, Kishtwar, Jalandhar (Punjab), and Sri Ganganagar (Rajasthan), among others, as a precautionary measure.

The unrest also disrupted sporting events, with an Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Dharamshala suspended midway. The stadium lights were briefly turned off before the match was officially called off. Spectators were instructed to leave the venue and return home safely. Security personnel used public address systems to urge the public to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary movement.

India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, condemned the attack in Pahalgam as a major provocation and stated that India is delivering a “measured and calibrated” response. Acting on a recommendation from the Indian Air Force, authorities have declared an indefinite blackout in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab.

The rapid escalation and military posturing on both sides have fueled concerns of a possible armed conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations. Diplomatic efforts are reportedly underway, but the situation remains volatile.
