Beni, Myagdi Skillful students of Mount Everest Secondary School in Beni, Myagdi, have transformed their assembly hall with vibrant murals depicting spiritual and cultural themes. The students, Angelina Bhattachan, Rihana Thapa, Kushal Pun, Suman BK, and Anmol Chhantyal, drew inspiration from images of deities and cultural landmarks they observed in Kathmandu.

Under the guidance of art instructor Nima Sherpa and Principal Raju KC, the students crafted detailed paintings of Swayambhu, Gautam Buddha, Lord Krishna, and Goddess Saraswati, blending spiritual imagery with natural beauty. Their artwork, depicting deities in various meditative poses and Swayambhu’s iconic eyes, showcased their burgeoning artistic talents. The project is part of the school’s initiative to provide students with a holistic education that extends beyond traditional textbook learning. “We do not confine students to bookish knowledge alone. We encourage creative activities, practical learning, and holistic well-being through yoga, meditation, and mindfulness,” Principal Raju KC stated.

In addition to the art program, the school emphasizes yoga and meditation. Fifty-eight Grade 10 students participate in daily yoga and meditation sessions from 6:00 to 6:45 AM. The school also extends its mindfulness programs to parents, having recently organized a meditation camp for Grade 9 parents and a training session for parents of students from Grades 1 to 10, focusing on parental roles in child development.

More than 400 students participate in weekly art classes, learning sketching, poster coloring, pencil shading, clay art and other artistic activities. Instructor Nima Sherpa highlighted the importance of art in various fields, emphasizing its role in fostering creativity and excellence. Students expressed enthusiasm for the program. “It feels amazing to create such artwork on the school walls for the first time. Learning new artistic skills alongside our regular classes is truly fulfilling,” said Grade 10 student Angelina Bhattachan.
