The Tamil language film ‘Jai Bhim’ has got the highest rating on IMDB, a website that provides statistics related to the film. Viewers have compared the film to classic films such as The Sashank Redemption and The Godfather.
In some of the scenes shown at the beginning of ‘Jai Bhim’, police officers are segregating people on the basis of ethnicity. In this scene, people who are domineering are called to go. However, those who belong to the Dalit and Adivasi communities are falsely accused.
This scene is very touching. People sitting side by side in this scene almost know their mistake. Such scenes always happen. This scenario points to the uncertain life of Dalits in small towns and villages in India.
Dalits make up 20 percent of India’s population. Despite the law, they continue to face discrimination and violence. The name of this movie is ‘Jai Bhim’ meaning ‘Bhim Amar Rahein’. This popular slogan has been given by Dalit scholar and leader Bhimrao Ramji (BR) Ambedkar and his supporters. Ambedkar was the chief architect of the Indian constitution and the country’s first law minister.
The film is directed by TJ Gyanvel. The film stars Tamil star Surya in the lead role. The film tells the story of a true lawyer who fights against the wrong style. ‘Jai Bhim’ is part of a new movement in Tamil cinema. Through this, many young producers are presenting the audience against the oppression of Dalits through films.
Lately, the story of Dalits is also getting a place in films made in other languages of India. It has Punjabi films like ‘Anhe Gorhe Da Dan’. This issue has also been raised in Marathi films like ‘Masan’ and Marathi films like ‘Fandry and Sairat’.
At the same time, films made in Tamil language that tell the story of all Dalits are not commendable. According to director Leena Manimek, the roles of heroes and heroines in Tamil films have not changed in recent times. But one thing is for sure, viewers are now watching new movies.
‘Jai Bhim’ is not a movie released in the hall. So its measure of popularity is not box office statistics. However, viewers at IMDB have given the film a 9.6 rating to take it to the first place.
