Deadly Gang Fight in Beni Bazar, Claims One Life

A deadly gang fight erupted in Beni Bazar, Myagdi, resulting in the tragic death of 22-year-old Shushil Garvuja and injuries to Anurag Shahi. The incident occurred after a volleyball match, and police are investigating, actively searching for those involved in the confrontation.

Beni Myagdi, January 25, 2024: A deadly confrontation unfolded in Beni municipality-8 of Myagdi, resulting in the loss of 22-year-old Shushil Garvuja’s life due to gunfire at the campus chowk. The incident transpired at approximately 6:30 pm on Thursday evening, sending shockwaves throughout the community.

Shushil Garvuja, a resident of Raghuganga Rural Municipality-1 Beg and currently residing in Beni Municipality-8 Pipalchowk, succumbed to a gunshot wound, while his friend, Anurag Shahi from Beni Napa-6 Athunge, sustained injuries. The unfortunate event occurred after the conclusion of the Myagdi Cup Volleyball match in Beni, where a gathering near Kamana Development Bank turned violent.

The altercation intensified, resulting in Shushil Garvuja suffering serious injuries from a khukuri, and another group reportedly attacked a motorcycle rider, leading to the tragic outcome. Deputy Superintendent of Police Madan Kunwar stated that the individuals involved in the incident are yet to be identified.

“We have initiated the investigation based on eyewitness accounts, and efforts are underway to identify the individuals responsible,” said DSP Kunwar. The police are actively searching for those involved, conducting thorough checks on roads from Benibazar to rural areas and crossings to outlying districts. The age range of those implicated is estimated to be between 20 and 30 years.

The motive behind the clash and the extent of reconciliation between the two groups remain unclear. The police are diligently piecing together the sequence of events leading to Shushil Garvuja’s tragic death and Anurag Shahi’s injury.
