Kathmandu, Feb 28: The All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU), a student organization affiliated with the CPN-UML, has officially announced Siddhantha Bhatta as their candidate for the position of president in the upcoming Free Student Union (FSU) election at Tribhuvan University (TU) Central Campus, Kirtipur.
The announcement was made on Thursday by ANNFSU Central President Samik Kumar Badal, spokesperson Prakash Paudel, and other central leaders during a press conference in Kathmandu. The Swaviyu election is scheduled to take place on March 18, with various student organizations fielding their candidates for key positions.
Bhatta, who currently serves as the secretary of the Free Students Union at TU Central Campus, gained widespread recognition for his active involvement in student movements and his leadership in demanding reforms at Tribhuvan University. In December 2024, Bhatta spearheaded a 24-hour sit-in protest in front of the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Keshrajang Baral’s office, calling for the fulfilment of a 35-point charter of demands aimed at addressing issues related to academic management, student welfare, and administrative reforms.
Following the protest, Tthe U administration agreed with Bhatta and his team, acknowledging the students’ demands and committing to address the outlined concerns. His leadership in the protest and consistent advocacy for student rights have solidified his reputation as a prominent student leader within the university community.
ANNFSU expressed confidence in Bhatta’s leadership, citing his dedication to student welfare and educational reforms as key factors in his nomination. The organisation hopes to secure victory in the upcoming election with Bhatta leading their campaign. The FSU election, a significant event in the university’s calendar, will see students voting to elect representatives who will advocate for their rights and work towards enhancing the academic environment at Tribhuvan University.
